Gait analysis is the visual assessment of how a person walks or runs. Video assessment is performed on a treadmill by the podiatrist to allow recording of the gait, the movement can then be slowed down to demonstrate problems in the patient’s movement.

This can be very valuable for runners in analysing how efficient their running style is and helping preventing any unwanted potential injuries. Not only is this a valuable tool for sports persons but this can be utilised for children and adults of all ages to assist in assessing any posture related problems, lower back, hip, knee, leg or foot pain.

What to bring:

  • Trainers or daily wearing shoes to be assessed on treadmill.
  • Shorts or loose clothing to be able to observe foot/ankle and knee.
  • Running analysis – ideally shorts above knee height.

What to expect:

  • To walk at various speeds dependent on the individual.
  • To walk with and without footwear on.
  • To be recorded for analysis.
