Insoles / Orthotics

<IMG>

Orthotics are medical devices which are used to alter how the foot functions in order to assist in treating posture related problems, lower back, hip, knee, leg or foot pain. These may range from simple insoles and pre-fabricated orthotics, which can be fitted within a person’s shoes to custom made orthotics which are individually designed to a certain person’s specification/requirement.

Custom orthotics are orthotics/insoles which are designed from a cast which has been taken from a patients foot (plaster of paris or foam box). The orthotic can then be designed to specifically alter joint function correcting/balancing abnormalities.

Orthotics can be functional or accommodative. Functional are designed to alter foot biomechanics and correct/improve function whereas accommodative aims to aid comfort and reduce pressure/force to certain locations such as in a fixed arthritic/rheumatoid foot.
